January Spotlight 2025

January Spotlight 2025

This month’s student-mentor spotlight is mentor Jack Sipes, and his mentee, Brodie Nichols. The two have been matched since March 2021.

JACK SIPES, Mentor

What do you consider to be your hometown? How long have you lived in Fernandina Beach?

Beaver, PA (Go Steelers). I have lived in Fernandina Beach for 18 years.

What made you decide to mentor with Take Stock?

Someone very close to me got me involved in Take Stock and the opportunity to help kids.

How many students have you mentored?
Three.

What have you gained from mentoring Brodie?

I look forward to every opportunity to see Brodie because he represents all that is good with the future of our community and our country. Hard-working, determined, family and church-oriented, and responsible and trustworthy. Knowing Brodie for the last 5 years has made me a better person.

BRODIE NICHOLS, YULEE High School

Why did you want to apply for Take Stock?

I needed help, and this program has really got me started and gave me ideas and opened doors for me to know what I want to do after high school.

What have you learned from your relationship with your mentor, Jack?

He’s an amazing guy. I’m so thankful for him. He puts his own time into this organization to help me find and figure out my future path.

What is your favorite memory from TSIC?

I love all the times that we’ve all come together as a group, but really just one-on-ones with my mentor because he can change my day for the better if I’m having a rough day.

What are your plans after you graduate high school and TSIC?
I have the opportunity to work with CSX following graduation, and I will attend trade school because I enjoy working outside and with my hands.
