What do you consider to be your hometown? How long have you lived in Fernandina Beach?
I’m from Pineville, Louisiana, and I’ve lived in Nassau County for about five years.
What made you decide to mentor with Take Stock?
I loved the idea of providing not only longitudal mentoring, but also wrap-around academic support and coaching through the college application process for Take Stock students.
How many students have you mentored?
One.
What have you gained from mentoring Zaylie?
I have enjoyed watching Zaylie grow and mature over the past four years. It is rewarding to invest in the next generation and to see what they can accomplish.
Zaylie Blais, Fernandina Beach High School Senior
Why did you want to apply for Take Stock?
I wanted to apply for Take Stock to help boost my chances of going to college, as well as receiving proper guidance from mentors and being able to learn what the different colleges offer.
.
What have you learned from your relationship with your mentor, Tracey?
I have learned to be more confident with my speaking and have better “people skills.” Because of her, I can communicate better with my peers and teachers. She taught me hard things can be done with the right attitude and persistence.
What is your favorite memory from TSIC?
My favorite memories are time spent with my mentor talking about our personal lives and making weekly goals, all while eating her homemade cookies.
What are your plans after you graduate high school and TSIC?
I hope to attend the University of Central Florida and earn a degree in performing arts.
